🛍️ Ethereum Proposal Grab Bag — Issue No. 9

🗞 News

The ERC-777 token standard is nearing finalization. The standard is backwards compatible with the widely adopted ERC-20, but adds features like single step transfers, hooks for transaction notifications, and the ability to assign third party "operators". These features could enable new use cases for tokens, such as monthly subscriptions. Link.

This proposal dovetails nicely with ERC-948, another in-work proposal to establish a standard for recurring charges. It's still in early stages, but it's one that could be very important for the growth of the decentralized application ecosystem. Link.

While we're discussing interesting work-in-progress Ethereum proposals, checkout ERC-998: composable non-fungible tokens. If implemented, this standard would allow you to combine a group of ERC-20 or ERC-721 tokens in a unique "basket", ownership of which could be transferred atomically. Link.

Finally, one last interesting proposal for you. EIP-918 introduces the concept of a mineable ERC-20 token. That is, it allows the distribution of these tokens via Proof-of-Work, completely independent of the mining happening to secure the actual chain. Link.

In what was a slow news week, from a technical perspective, I chose to introduce you to a bunch of interesting Ethereum proposals rather than stretching to craft a narrative where there was none. I hope you enjoyed it! There is certainly lots of interesting development work being done on top of the Ethereum blockchain.
